My World...

Below are images of my current classroom. I have created posters, bulletin boards, and white boards to engage my students. Each activity showcases a skill I have cultivated to increase student engagement and activity within the classroom. I believe in an honest and transparent classroom, which is achieved through these posters.

WALL OF INFORMATION...

Or "The Wall of Everything You Need" as referred to by my students. On this wall,I list activities for each day/period on the left hand side. On the right side, I list the daily objectives and agenda for the day. This eliminates the "what are we doing today" questioning that can occur. Students also like to see what skills they will be using. On the top of the board, I list different benchmarks such as the writing prompt and reading level. I list goals as well as the class' current status. It is a great motivator increase achievement

MOTIVATIONAL WRITING...

Writing was the hardest task for my students this year. To help increase their confidence, I created the writing wall. The writing wall includes the six traits of writing chart, a writing response guide, and motivational quotes. The writing response guide defines each type of writing how to approach it. For example, narratives retell events and you can use "I". Motivational quotes came from authors like Margaret Atwood, William Faulkner, and Truman Capote. Their favorite quote was "Quiet People Have the Loudest Minds" by Stephen King.

WRITING ANNOTATIONS GUIDELINES...

As a member of IdahoCore, I was trained in using annotation as a tool in the classroom. Since my focus this year was to improve my writing curriculum, I used annotation as another way to peer edit. I taught the students each symbol and what it stood for. They then used the symbols to edit each other's works. The question mark was very popular in my classroom to clear up confusion. It was a great way to avoid the "only" spelling revisions I have seen in the past.

SENTENCE REMINDERS...

My students struggled with writing complete sentences in response to questioning. To help with this, I created a sentence reminder poster and the student received a copy to keep in their binders. It seemed simple but it was a great tool in the classroom and helped improved their sentence skills.

I'm a paragraph. Click here to add your own text and edit me. It’s easy. Just click “Edit Text” or double click me and you can start adding your own content and make changes to the font. Feel free to drag and drop me anywhere you like on your page. I’m a great place for you to tell a story and let your users know a little more about you.

STUDENT CREATED GOALS...

At the start of every year, I create a list of student goals and expectations. With the students, we list all their goals for the year and the expected behavior to reach them. I post them on the wall to refer to them as needed. Examples of goals include: write a five paragraph essay, become a better reader, and cite evidence. Examples of expectations include: Be responsible, be safe, and be respectful. I work with the students throughout the year in order to achieve them.
